Facts About Aloe Vera In 500 Words or Less

We could go on and on about Aloe Vera because we are literally plant people, but we will try and tone it down just for you. Let’s look at some facts about Aloe Vera. First, it has been used by Ancient Egyptians, notably Queens Nefertiti and Cleopatra, as part of their regular beauty regimens. So, the concept of using this plant is not new. Secondly, Aloe Vera is a succulent and grows primarily in dry hot climates such as Texas (where we are located), and other subtropical regions around the world.

Aloe Vera in the beauty world is used as a gel extracted from the leaves of the aloe plant. Known uses are topically for the treatment of burns, sunburns, inflammatory skin disorders, and wounds. Studies have shown that treatments with Aloe Vera extracts resulted in faster healing of wounds. Here’s where the beauty world has benefitted from this amazing plant. Clearly Queens Nefertiti and Cleopatra had the right idea!

Aloe Vera is said to be an effective ingredient for improving skin hydration, due to its high polysaccharide content. Aloe vera juice is a source of micronutrients and has fantastic moisturizing properties and can have a softening and detangling effect on hair (See Lady Kiki’s Hair Cleanser). Mucopolysaccharides that are present in Aloe Vera help in binding moisture into the skin and even stimulates collagen production making the skin more elastic and less wrinkled.

Wonderful news for skincare – Aloe Vera is full of Vitamins and Minerals. Vitamins are Antioxidants that fight free radical damage. Aging is partially genetics, but there are major environmental factors to consider. So, we want those Antioxidants as they neutralize free radicals! Aloe Vera contains Vitamins A (beta-carotene), C and E, Vitamin B12, Folic acid, and Choline. Definitely why we have included Aloe Vera in our skincare including our Wildcraft Basic Ritual Set and Wildcraft Advanced Skincare Ritual Set, as well as our Pretty Belly Jelly just in time for summer.

Summing up the benefits of Aloe Vera:

  • Anti-inflammatory
  • Anti-Bacterial
  • Antifungal
  • Neutralizes free radical damage
  • Contains multiple Vitamins
  • Soothing

Something that we enjoy doing at home which is a DIY effort is chopping up some of our homegrown Aloe Vera leaf with purified water, Cucumber water, and Glycerin, grating it in a food processor then freezing it in an ice tray. These cubes are so refreshing and cooling to the skin for the summer. We encourage everyone to visit their local store and pick up an Aloe Vera plant because they require minimal maintenance and contain wonderful benefits.
