Natural Ingredient Series: Solutions Found In Nature - Vitamin E

Vitamin E is so commonly used in cosmetics that consumers expect to see it on an ingredients label. Why do so many beauty brands use this vitamin? Vitamin E is an antioxidant that naturally occurs in plants in two main types - tocopherols and tocotrienols and further broken down into what we consider to be eight subtypes. According to studies, some forms of Vitamin E work as an anti-inflammatory agent on the skin and can reduce serious UV-induced skin conditions.

Because of Vitamin E’s antioxidant properties, its used in formulas to prevent oxidation – which for example could lead to rancidity of oils. It’s also wonderful for anti-aging purposes and boosting collagen production. Unfortunately, many new formulators believe Vitamin E is a preservative when it is not. If you are creating a beauty product at home be aware that Vitamin E is not a broad-spectrum preservative. You will have some pesky little critters growing in your formula if Vitamin E is your preservative of choice.

10 plants and seeds that are rich in Vitamin E: 1. Sunflower Seeds 2. Almonds 3. Avocados 4. Broccoli 5. Soybean 6. Bell Pepper 7. Pumpkin Seeds 8. Safflower 9. Peanuts 10. Collard Greens

All in all, Vitamin E is a must to have in your beauty regimen. Many of our products with KAM Family Botanics are formulated with Vitamin E. If you are searching for a beneficial natural ingredient – then Vitamin E is a great choice.
